Lady Glasgow has issued a circular to the local clergy and others, inviting them to attend a meeting for the purpose cf establishing a .New Zealand Mothers' Union the object of the Union being to awaken mothers to a sense of their great responsibility as mothers in training their boys and girls. fe Fire. Akakoa, Januarj 3, A serious fire occurred at Akaroa this morning which destroyed Daly's wholesale store, together with the Akaroa Boating Club's shed. The store was insured for £300 and contents for £350 in the Liverpool and Loudon and Globe. The working apparatus of the sports and regatta committee and four outrigger boats were destroyed. The Club's insurance is £50 in the South British, and the Club's loss is estimated at £60. Kb« Shop Hours Act. Dunedin, December 29. A number of shopkeepers are to be proceeded against for not giving a half holiday to their assistants in the week preceeding Christmas. Fatal Vram Accident. James Mollison. aged eleven, son of Benjamin Mollison, of Oatnaru, when stepping off a tram g^ing to Mornington, last evening, was knocked down by a car coming towards town. The front wheels passed over his body, and so dreadfully crushed him that death must have been ( instantaneous. Deceased was spending his holidays in Dunfcdin.
