After midday the weather cleared, enabling the Volunteer Review to take place m the Botanical resenre, where the local and country corps assembled, along witha detachment of bJue jackets from H.M.S. Ringarooma. After various manoeuvres were gone through, The Minister of Defence addressed the men, congratulating them on their efficiency. He thanked Captain Bourke for allowing his men to take part m the review, and mentioned than this was the first time the men of the new colonial warship had taken part m a shore demonstration. He was glad to see the Rmgarooma men taking part m the day's work, and thought thafc such action would tend to make popular the arrangements entered into between the colonies and the Imperial Government, regarding the colonial navy. Mr Seddon assured the volunteers that, as long as he was at the head of th» Defence Department, he would do all ia his power to encourage the massing ot volunteers, as he considered it would bring the nc&n fco a high state of eflicieaey. Eton, Mr Seddon and Hon. Mr Mckenzie visited the Orphanage to-day, and were greatly pleased at the manner m which* the Institution is managed., A bowling match between the Nelson and Wellington Clubs has been postponed until to-morrow morning. The Temperance Demonstration, which, was put off yesterday, owing to the wet weather, takes place m the Botanical Gardens to-morrow.
