Melbourne, November 5. The bookmakers were heavily hit over Carbine's win. Mr Wallaae won r£25;000 in wagers, while Mr Brodribb, find Rammage (who had a mount on barbine), lt were also big winners. Hammage says he had the race in band all the way, necessity never arising for the use of whip or spur. Commenting on Highborn's performance, the " Argus " remarks that his victory would have been a Cup disaster.
