A special meeting of the Ashburton County Council was held on Friday, 31st October, Present—Mr Walker (chairman), and Messrs Friedlamler, Grigg, Wright, Brown, and Coster, *The Chairman reported on the business done since last meeting, and the ranger's report* were read and approved. Mr McMillan, was granted leave of absence for the meeting. ; On the motion of Mr Wright it; was rewired that the water supply accounts be forthwith jniblialied with .explanatory notes. Mr Studholme, junr., waitrd on tlic Council re the Hinds village sett.e.uent water race, and on the motion of Mr Wright it was carried Unit 4 miles of races for that locality be pat in baud subject to the usual conditions us to cost, and that the supply of water be contingent, on the mam from the South Ashburton being enlarged, and the additional water available betore races are made use of. The report of the committee on races, made by Messrs Chalmers Bros and others, was read and adopted. , Mr Walker reported on the water supply from the junction of .South and North Asaburton branches. Usual accounts were paused for payment. It was resolved tliat the Council is willing to accept control of tho Rakaia Gorge Bridge. A letter from Mr Purnell was directed to be sent to the Mount Somers Road Board. Resolved : That tenders for dog collars be called for } and the subsidy for Kea, beaks be ! continued; and that the' Government! brisked to adopt one uniform set of bodks^for use of County Councils. : '" i' ,', On the motion of Mr Grigg, seconded by Mr Coster, a vote of thanks wai recorded to the Chairman for the abl» manner in which] he had •onducwd the business of the Council during the past year; and on Mr Walker's motion, Mr Wright seconding, a vote of thanks was recorded for the services of the Secretary and Engineer. The Council then adjourned to 26th November.
