Upper Ashburton Road Board.
The usual monthly meeting of this Board was held at tiic Board's (Mice, Tiuwald, -m Monday, October 27th. Present-Me;. ma McLean (chairman), Sargant, and Stitt. The minutes of the last meeting were read jind confirmed. ■ ' ' Correspondence was read as follows: — From the Auditor-General stating that the sum of £'J3 15s, 75 per cent of the .subsidy under the Local Bodies Finance and Powers Act, 1883, had been remitted to credit of the Board's account at the Union Bank of Australasia, Ashburtop.—From the Commissioners of Crown Lands, Christc'iurch, stating that 5 acres, as indicated by the Board on the north-eastern corner of lot 36, reserve 350, block ITL, Hinds Suney District, had been set apart for a gravel pit: — It/ Cattle on Roads : With reference to the inconvenience to the public generally and damage to water races through cattle and horses being grazed on the roads m the district, it was resolved that Mr W. Compton be authorised to impound all cattle, horses, etc., found straying m the Upper Ashburton Road District; also to prosecute all persons deliberately hcrdiug or grazing stock on the public roads m the district; and to sue all trespassers on the footpaths m the Allenton District. — R<; Water on the road near Digby's Bridge, past Mr Mclntyre's house. The Clerk was instructred to write to Mr Mclntyre asking him to remedy same. The Clerk's report was received and read, m which it was stated that the contract of making a track for light wheel traffic across the river bed south branch Aahburton River to connect with the Hackthorne Road ; also repairing, cutting, and making ford across the creek below the cutting on the north side; had been let by the Chairman and member for No. 3 Ward, and that the work was now finished.— lie the bad state of some two chains of the road (leading from the racecourse road past Hepburn's farm), near Dromcrc, caused by the overflow of the water race, the Clerk was instructed to i write the County Council calling their attention to the matter.— lie Purchase of Bird's Eggs : It was resolved that the Clerk I write the Wakanui and Lougbeach jßoad Boards asking them the amount per 100 they intended to pay this Seasoni Accounts amounting to £71 '3s 6d were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
