Mount Somers Road Board.
The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Monday, o'ct..7. Present—Messrs Peache (Chairman), Walker, Syme, and Chapman. The Overseer's report was read and considered. Gorge Road—Several necessary #orks on this road were ordered to be done. : Foot bridge near Mr McLeod's was ordered to be repaired. ; Rurtherford's Road—The cutting' into the river was ordered to be repaired; Correspondence—From the Ashburton County Council giving the Board full power to let from year to year or plant and fence any of the shingle reserves m the district. Received. —From the Commissioner of Crown Lands asking to be informed what necessity exists for the proposed new road at Mount Possession. and under what authority the Board! propose to make it across Crown land held underlease, the runholder having objected to the same. Resolved that the Chairman be authorised to write to the C«»mmissioner. of Crown Lands re proposed! road m Ashburton Gorge opposite Mount j Possession, and arrange for its survey ; also proposed road above, R.S. 20799 m Taylor's branch, to arrange for its survey ; also to arrange for the survey of,, tho un•urveyed roads m the district.—From Mr J. R. Colyer asking for the use of the office at the forthcoming general election. I Granted. ' ' Mr James Harrison interviewed the Board r», proposed new roacl at Mount Possession, and asked the Boarti to postpone the road-making till after Christmas. Mr Harrison was informed thatfthe work could not go on till the matter had been arranged with the Land Board. Alford Forest Domain.—Resolved that a public meeting of residents of the Alford Jorest and Springburn districts be ci&Ued
for the purpose of nomiuHtino five persons to constitute a Domain Bo;uxl. Tender*! were opened fur the several works aclvurtined, and the following' were, accepted :—No. 1 contract, James Urown; No. 2 contract, Thomas Fagau ; No. 3 contract;, James Brown, Accounts amounting to £07 12s were iv.ssed for pnvment and the Boaitl ac3journed.
