Wellington, October 2. Detective Kirby has been transferred to the Auckland district, of which he takes charge. Jerrard, the man injured on board the Australia, is m good spirits, bub is completely paralysed from the middle of the body downwards. The body of a middle-aged man was taken out of the harbor this afternoon. It had apparently been m the water for some time. The man found m the harbor has been identified as Thomas Whitworth, a blacksmith, and a resident of Douglas Wallace street, who has been missing for a fortnight. \ Dunedin, October 2| Charles Evans was found dead at Milton yesterday, under peculiar circumstances. The deceased was sixty-seven years of age, and occupied a farm at Table Hill. He had been engaged cutting a gorse hedge on his farm, and it is supposed he must subsequently have set fire to the gorse, and been caught m the flames, as when found he was badly burned.
