[PKK PIIESS ASSOCIATION.] Tli«» Ktr«'ft«T "J?l nrilcr, Gisborne, September 27. A meeting of Natives of the district around Whatatuhu "was held on Tuesday for the purpose of entering a vigorou protest against the aspersions cast by counsel for the defence in the recent Streeter murder case, in suggesting tha ' Maoris might have committed the deed. It is considered there was not the slightest ground for raising any suspicion against the natives, and there was no authority for the statement that Streeter shot Maori dogs, aud that ill feeling was engen dered in consequence. A great crowd of natives were present and there were many speakers. The proceedings lasted over eight hours. A letter, signed by 37 chiefs, was forwarded to the Minister of Justice, protesting against the statements made. A|i|ical Court. • Wellington, September 27.
