Cheistchurch, September 10. There was a good attendance at the market to-day, but the entry was not as large as the average during the past few months. Store Sheep. — About 1500 were yarded, of which the principal lines were crossbred ewes m lamb, and some with lambs at foot. The former sold at 10s 8d to 11s 9d, the latter sold at 9s 7d to lla 9d. A small lot of hoggets, mixed, brought 10s 4d. Fat Lambs.—-A few of this seasons lambs were sold at 10s 6d to-J3s. Fat Sheep.—Less than 4000 sheep were yarded m fat pens, of which there j were many that could not be classed as I at. Among the lots merinos were prominent as regards numbers, but wfere of inferior quality. There was a marked drop m values owing to the heavy market last week, and the closing of the freezing : works. In some cases this amounted; to 2s 6d per head, while the general average drop may be computed at Is 6d pier head. The best price for crossbred wethers was 20s, for sheep that a week or two ago ould have realised fully 235. Fat Cattle. —Quite a contrast from week's market presented itself m the pavilion, as 203 he«d were yarded. Some fine bullocks brought from 25s per lOOlbs upwards, while there were a number of cows and animals of inferior quality that did not realise more than 20s to 22s per lOOlbs. Store Cattle.—There was a large entry of mixed lots, chiefly dry cows. Some lines did not sell well, owing to continued dry weather. One lot of three-year-old steers brought £3 a head and one of bullocks, all ages, m forward condition, realised £5 2s. A quantity of dairy cows changed hands at good prices m proportion to their quality. Pigs.—The entry of pigs was small, and quality decidedly inferior to recent sales. Prices remained about the same, however, baconers being easy, while porkers weie m more demand at from 3|d to 4d per lb.
