[per press association.] llailway Slip, Wellington, September 5. It is stated here that the slip on the Gorge line cannot be cleared by Christmas. The permanent way contractor laid rails nearly that far, but can do nothing more till the slip is cleared. It is considered there is no chance of the line being opened this year. A nine-roomed house at Aurora Terrace m course of erection, was partly burned down last night. The house was empty and locked up, but a fire was lit during the day to meb glue. The contractors have a building risk of £500 m the Colonial.
