Wellington, August 31. , A military tournament and sports are to be held m Christchurch on October X4th, find fn Ijimectyn' a day qv two later. His Excellency the Grovernor ' will be present at both. Mr J. Aitken Connell, of Auckland, addressed a fairly well attended meeting ac the Opera House, on the labor question, last night. Mr A. H. Ross, M.H.R., presided. The speaker's views were opposed to the formation of unions, and the meeting was therefore rather lively, and more than onqe it almost broke up m disorder. On concluding, Mr Connell announced lie would contest Wellington City at the general elections. The annual sheep returns now m show a highly satisfactory state. The Minister anticipated an increase of half a million.
