The increase m daily papers has been still more remarkable ; the daily issues standing 185, against 14 m 1846, The magazines now m course of publication, including the quarterly reviews, number 1752, of which more, than 430 are of a decidedly religious character, representing the Church of England, Weslcyans, Methodists, Baptists, Independents, Roman Catholics, and other Christian communities. In New Zealand there are 46 daily, papers, 58 weekly, 22 monthly, 29 bi-weekly, 13 tri-weekly, 2 fortnightly. Total 170 papers.
