SAN FRANCISCO MAIL SERVICE.
Sydney, August 25. The " Sydney Morning Herald," m the course of a leading article, says the cessation of the San Francisco mail service will, no doubt, evoke a feeling of regret m not a few of the Australian Colonies, not so much on account of its postal advantages, as for the sake of the' relations which it helped to establish between the Great Republic and these advancing communities. Failing a line from San Francisco, one from Vancouver is sure to be established shortly, and if the United States do not wish to see their influence eclipsed they must display m the future a generosity which will present a striking contrast with the parismony of the past.
