Mr D. Thomas (late of M/itson, Cox and Co.), reports upon the Live Stock Market for the Ashburton district, for the week ending August 19th, as follows :— On Tuesday at the Ashburton yards, I held my usual weekly sale of sheep, cattle and pigs. There was a total entry for the day of 3032 sheep, 36 pigs and 77 cattle, of which I sold 2048 .sheep, 51 cattle and 34 pigs. The attendance was an average one, and there was good competition for any good sheep, but anything m poor condition was difficult to quit. The following were the prices realised :— Fat crossbred 2-tooth, 14s 3d to 16s 3d. In stores, crossbred hoggets, 10s Id, 11s lid, 12s sd, 13s 8d ; crossbred ewes with lambs at foot, 14s 3d; mixed ewes m poor condition, 6s 6d ; merino ewes, 6s sd. In pigs—Porkers, £1 ; baconers, £1 18s 6d. A line of fat and £ fat steers, £5 7s; old cows m milk, £2.
