Chbistohurch, August 20. The sale to-day was held under most auspicious circumstances, the weather being good and the attendance excellent. Stoke Sheep.-—There was a. limited entry, and the few lines entered did not , form any criterion of the market. Fat Sheep.—The pens were still filled, 6000 being m, among which there was a fair proportion of good butchers' mutton and freezers. The best quality merino wethers went as high as 17s Id, while primest crossbred wether mutton brought fully up to last week's quotations. Lamb.—One small pen of lambs, from Riccarton was soon snapped up, 16s and 21s being obtained. Fat Cattle.—There were about 150 head sold, the best of which were from the North Island, and though they looked decidedly the worse for their jouney they brought top price, up to £10 15s being given for these large framed oxen. The sale of inferior quality beef was limited, but the i>rice remained firmer than last week, despite the larger entry. Mr S. Garforth's champion fafc heifer was sold for £15 5s to Mr John Mann. Store Cattle.—There was a large number of dry cows, bulls, and odd lots of store cattle, besides a number of dairy cows, for all of which there was a better demand, the result being that most of the lines were sold at recent rates. Pigs.—Another heavy entry of porkers and small bacon pigs met witli a slight clseck as buyers held off a trifle m consequence of the unfavorable state of the weather which changed about three p.m. to a south-west gale.
