Ashburton Stock Market.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 19.

Messrs Miles find Co., per George; Jameson, report:—The entry for the day comprised about 3052 sheep, 36 pigs, and 78 head of cattle. The attendance was equal to the average at these sales, but there were but few outside buyers, and although there was a good demand for store sheep of all classes, the biddings were by no means brisk, and crossbred hoggets wer£ somewhat easier to buy than they have been during previous sales. Good crossbred ewgs m lamb would sell readily at high rates, but there are none coming forward. We sold a pice line of fat merino wethers from the Vajtitta Estate at 14s each. Fat cattle are aj.so bringing prices nearly equal to Chmtehurch, but owing to the scarcity of feed stores are selling at low rates,, and are extremely difficutlt to quit. The following is a list of our sales : —Fat crossbred wethprs and maiden ewes, lin to 34s lOd ; fat crossbred awes 13s 5d to ]L4s ?A ; fat merino wethers 14s, and m forward condition 9s to 9s 3d ; crossbred koggets fe &7* M, fc:¥> \ m ( . f c™ss; bred ewes, m k>w condition, 8s bd. *at cHttle—Four Uetfers^t £4 Jj&s 5 ftva steers at £5 5s ; three huiiavH tit £U 17s bA j two at £5 ; two cows at £','} 10,«, During the week we sold privately 1150 crossbred Jhoggets at Us 6d.
