STOPPAGE OF THE WALLSEND MINE.
' Gkeymouth, August 15. The flistnaiitlihg of the Wallsend mine is now completed. Ekerything at the mine is stopped, fan and pumps, the fires drawn, and all hjinds discharged ; 140 men and boys are thrown out of employment. Most of the men are married with large families. It is stated that should times improve, arid an attempt be made to Tework the mine, it would take three months to pump it out. ■ :. Wellington, August 15. - Koticehas been given the employees of the Petone Woollen Factory that m all probability reductions will - shortly be made; owing to the scarcity bf,oirders.
