Wakanui River Board.
The monthly meeting of the Wakanui River Board was held on Saturday, August 9th. Present—Messrs Clephane (chairman), Wilson, Johnston, and Thomas. The Chairman read the Works Committee's report, which recommended that certain vorks should be carried out at once. After discussion, Mr Wilson proposed "That a full meeting of the Board be held at the river to discuss the works recommended by the Works Committee." Mr Johnston proposed, as an amendment, and it was carried, " That the report be adopted, and that the Works Committee be empowered to carry out the works suggested m the report with despatch." Resolved, " That the Clerks give twenty-four hours' notice to Mr Samuel Brown, m accordance with Section 78 of The River Boards Act, 1884, that the Board will enter upon his lands m the Wakanui River District, and fronting on the Ashburton River, for the purpose of erecting banks and carrying out other works the Board may deem necessery to prevent the overflow from the river." The Clerks were instructed to call for tenders to be m by Saturday next, for erecting a bank about 9 j chains long, 12 feet wide at the bottom, 2 feet wide on top, and 4 feet high. The meeting then adjourned.
