Gkeymouth, August 11. A large and influential meeting to-night 1 discussed the Midland Company's proposed railway deviation and came to conclusions as follows :—(1) The deviation of the line from the western to the eastern side of Lake Brunner would be a considerable advantage to the whole of the Wesfc Coast, and will open a large extent of valuable land with an easy grade; (2) portions of the line now m course of construction are drawing to an early completion, and if the deviation is granted the company are prepared to let large contracts immediately, providing for the labour now m the district and it is considered important that no delay should occur m a settlement of the question ; (3) m view of the large interests involved the meeting most respectfully and strongly urges on the Government the absolute necessity for taking prompt action and granting the company the required concession; (4) that, a commitee be appointed to prepare a petition,, obtain signatures, and embody the views m the foregoing resolutions. The meeting was exceptionally unanimous.
