Auckland, August 8. The steamer Rose Casey, bound for Coromandel, and the paddle steamer Tainui, from Waikika, collided outside the harbour, off Motuihi Island, to-night. The bow*of the Rose Casey struck the Tainui on the paddle box and sponson, shattering them. The Rose Casey had a couple of plates torn away. The crew and passengers of the Tainui are safe. Dunedin, August 9. Mr Merriless died from injuries received at the fire at Taieri beach. The insurance is only £140.
