Ashburton Live Stock Market.
Mr D. Thomas reports upon the Live Stock Market for the Ashburton District for the week ending August sth, as follows: — On Tuesday at the Ashburton Yards I held my usual auction sale of sheep, cattle, and pigs. There was a total entry of 3955 sheep, 12 cattle, and 13 pigs. Of these I sold 2350 sheep, 9 cattle, and 13 pigs. There was a fair attendance of buyers, and mostly intent on business. The competition was brisk, and all lines were cleared at an advance on fat sheep of Is per head, and store sheep of 6d to 9d, and at these prices several buyers went away without being supplied. The following are the prices realised :—Fat crossbred ewes, 15s 3d to 15s 6d. In turnip sheep—Crossbred two and four tooth, to be topped up, 15s 6d to 16s 8d ; crossbred hoggets; lls 9d to 12s; crossbred ewes m lamb, 10s 7d, 10s 9d, lls 7d, 12s; merino ewes m lamb, 6s, 7s sd, to 7s 6d. Pigs, 30s to 30s 6d. Fat cattle, £7 to £8; springers, £4 to £5; two year old, 255.
