JUBILEE CELEBRATION.

TO THE EDITOR

Sir,—ln to-day's " Press "it is stated that the Mayor of Christchurch has proclaimed Monday next a public holiday, on the occasion of the Jubilee of the proclamation at Akaroa of the British Sovereignty over the South Island. Now Sir, I consider, and many others do also, that Ashburton should not be behind on aucn an important occasion. If a whole day cannot be given, then let the afternoon be set apart for the celebration. I know for a face that this is the wish of a large number of residents. —I am, etc., Loyal.
