Auckland, July 25. A report dealing with the financial position of the colony has been prepared by Mr E. W. Burton, at the request of the New Zealand Political and Financial Reform Association, for distribution through the different provincial centres to electors throughout the colony. Particulars of the drowning of Captain Morris show that the unfortunate man was washed overboard from the cutter Tokeran early on Thursday morning, when the vessel was off Mercury Bay. A line was thrown to him, but he sank beneath a heavy sea and was not seen again. Dunedin, July 25. 0. Brodie Cooper was committed for trial for forging four cheques for £21 on the Colonial Bank. . Invercaroill, July 25. The body of William Rooney, a bailiff, who was missing at Cromwell two months ago, was found two miles below town. Jesse Gibbs, farmer, Heddon Buah, was committed for trial at the Supreme Court on a charge of stealing sheep from Bayswater estate.
