RIOTS IN PERU.
London, July 16. Accounts have reached here of serious riots which broke out at Tarapea in Upper Peru. Seven thousand rioters deiied the authorities, and committed depredations. The troops were called out to restore order, and in dispersing the mob forty persons were killed. UNSUCCESSFUL AUS- | TRALIANS. London, July 18. None of the Australians competitors are included in the 300 who are left in competition for the Silver medal at Wimbledon. The medal is to b*» awarded to the competitor who makes the highest score in the first series of stages for the Queen's prize and gold medal. THE AMERICAN TARIFF. Washington, July 18. It is proposed that a portion of the Tariff Bill brought in by McKinlay should come into operation on April Ist. RIOTS, Madjuu, July 18. Eight thousand laborers struck work at Ma-uresa. The rioters threatened to burn the town, but the military dispersed the crowd. Many of the rioters were wouuded.
