The Rotomahana arrived at Gisborne at 10.30 last night. William McKean, miner, has been found dead in a hut at Waipori, Otago. Nominations for the Ashburton County Hunt Club Steeplechases close this evening. Mrs Wright, the evangelist, arrived at Ashburton to-day by the exprotis from Christchurch, where she has been holding a fortnight's services. Mrs Wright will conduct a week's mission at the Primitive Methodist Church, commencing to-morrow. The Railway Department advertise cheap excursion fares in connection with the Grand National Steeplechase. First-class \ return fares to Christchurch from Ashlmrton, 7s ; second class ss. A train will leare Ashburton at 9.42 on the 24th, returning at 7.55 p.m. The Rev. Thomas Spurgeon, Evangelist for the New Zealand Baptist Union, is expected to conduct a ten days mission in Ashburton, commencing on 3rd August. From his well known ability, and success in ijkie southern part of the Island, it may safely be said that Ashburton will prove no exception in the way of large meetings and / good results. !
