WEDNESDAY, JULY 9. HOUSE OF BEPRESENTATIVES. The House met at 2.30 p.m. REDUCTION OF THE ESTIMATES. In reply to Mr Seddon, Mr Mitchelson said that he did not think that the Government were justified m stating to the House any negotiations between them and members of their own party regarding a reduction of their estimates. Mr Ballance asked whether It was trua that Government agreed to the motion of which notice had been given by Mr Monk. Mr Mitchelson said the Government had not agreed to anything at the present time. When the motion was moved m Committee they would state what action the Government proposed to take m regard to it. Mr Seddon gave notice to move m Committee of Supply that the first item on the estimates be reduced by £— —, as an indication to the Government that supplies should not be granted beyond the end of September. FINANCIAL DEBATE. The debate on the Financial Statement occupied the remainder of the afternoon and evening sitting.
