Ashburton Live Stock Market.
Mr D. Thomos (late of Matson, Cox, and Co.) reports upon the Live Stock Market for Ashburton District for the week ending July Ist as follows:— On Tuesday I held my usual weekly sale of sheep, cattle, and pigs. The total entry of the clay consisted of 2093 sheep, 34 cattle, and 35 pigs, of which I sold 1633 sheep, 1(5 cattle, and 5 pigs. The attendance was an average one, but bidding was better than the previous week, and a rise of sixpence to ninepence took place on all classes of sheep. The following were the prices realised :— For fat crossbred ewes, 9s (3d, Ils4d, 12s 6d, to 14s 6d ; crossbred ewes and wethers, 16s Id, 16s 6d ; fat merino wethers, 10s Id; m stores and crossbred lambs, 11s 9d, 10s 9d, 9s 6d, 8s 7d; crossbred ewes, lls 4d, 9s 4d ; two-tooth crossbred, 9s 3d, 9s 6d, lls, 12s 6d; merino ewes, 5s 9d. Fat heifers, £3 18s, £3 17s; yearlings, £1 15s. Pigs, £1 10s. I also sold privately several large lines of good store sheep at satisfactory prices.
