Ashburton Live Stock Market.

Mr D. Thomas (late of Matson Cox and C 0.,) reports upon the live stock market for the Ashburton district, for the week ending June 12th, as follows :—On Tuesday, at the Ashburton Yards, I held my usual weekly sale of sheep, cattle, and pigs. There was a total entry for the day of 7600 sheep, 26 head of c-ittle, and 2 pigs, of which I sold 3546 sheep, and 7 head of cattle. The attendance cf buyers was quite up to the average, but bidding was rather black, and several lines were passed in unsold. I am glad to notice that a better demand is springing up for good lines of crossbred and merino ewes, which have "been somewhat neglected for some time past. The following were the prices realised:—For medium fat crossbred ewes, 8s 9d to 9s ; merino ewes, 4s 8d to 5s 6d ; boilers, 2s to 2s 6d. I also sold privately, 3000 . 2-tooth crossbred ewes and wethers, and 1000 merino ewes in lamb, at satisfactory prices^ In cattle a very poor market, with prices, rather below last sale. As an evidence that there are still buyers left in New Zealandfor farms, of good land, I would beg to' draw attention.' to my sales made, during the last week "as follows, viz. :—I3CO acres Westerfield Estate to' Messrs Mawson Bros. 1600 acres?" Acton Estate to ;Mr "H. J. Harrison, , Both of these blocks at prices satisfactory both to seller'and buyer. !20tf /acres at Wheatstone, at £19 10s an acre, to Mr W. H. Ford. 476 acres land, at £13 an acre, to Mr M. Mahoney; and, in conjunction with Mr Bullock, 184 acres of land ai Willowby to Mr J. Sowden at £15 12s 6d an acre. Every day I have enquiries for blocks of good land, and any that may be for sale are eagerly snapped up. Farms to lease are also in request, but in neither case is the supply equal to the demand, thus proving that even with values of produce at non-paying prices the holders of the good land do not care to leave it.
