A petition promoted by tho Chamber of Commerce, asking for a trial of the stage system on tho railways, is being nigned. Another donation of 100 volumes has been made to the Free Library by Sir George Grey. Napier, .lune 13. The Resident Magistrate delivered judgment in the peculiar case, Morton v Crewwell, in which the plaintiff sought to recover £10 10s retained by the latter, his solicitor, out of the money recovered from the Union Steamship Company for the loss of a portmanteau. Mr Cresswell had never given plaintiff a bill of costs. The R.M. said he would constitute himself a taxing master, and gave judgment for £3 3s with costs. Itfr. Cresswell desired to appeal. The plaintiff objected on account of the cost, when Mr Cresswell offered to pay costs. .. The RuM. reserved decision. Wellington, June 13. The French warship Dubourdien, the flag ship ;of the Pacific station, with -Admiral Reginault Depremasnil on board, is HBxpected to make a visit to New. Zealand waters towards the end;of the year.

With reference to the complaint that Wellington exhibits have been delayed, or not come to hand, the Exhibition authorities here are not responsible. | The Wellington Committee sent down a man with authority to take charge of the exhibits, and everything in the Court was placed in the hands of the Committee's representatives, who saw to their packing up and shipment.
