LICENSING COMMOTTEE.

ASHBURTON (SUBURBAN),

The quarterly (annual) meeting of the Ashburton (Suburban) Licensing Committee was held to-day. Present—Messrs D. Thomas, T. Scaly, and S. S. Chapman (Commissioners). The applications were all for renewals of license, and in the case of the Waterton Hotel for confirmation of transfer.

Mr E. G. Crisp appeared for Mr Famuel Boden Donnan of the Waterton Hotel, and pointed out that as the applicant had bought the property and stock right out and paid for it, there was every reason now that, in the applicant's own interest the house would be well conducted.

The police made no objection to any of the applications, which were all granted, although Mr Chapman opposed the Waterton license on the broad principle that the house was not wanted.

The applications were as follows:— Mark Scott, Tinwald Hotel; Peter Keller, Railway Hotel; Samuel Boden Donnan, Waterton Hotel.
