A lire broke ouc in a bonded store at the corner of Albert and Swanson streets, occupied by Butcher and Co., merchants" A large quantity of ilax, tow, grain and general merchandise - was stored in the building, «'iml these goods were seriously damaged by the water used to extinguish the (lames, 10 pr 15 tons of flax and to.w being destroyed. There was practically no damage to tho store itself. The insurances arc—New Zealand Insurance Company, £500 on the stock, £1500 on the building ; Alliance, £800 on the stock, Universal, £250 on the stock, The total damage to the stock is estimated at between £4000 and £5000.
