The Sydney Athletic Champoionship Meeting.



The Amateur Athletic Championship Meeting, held at Sydney on the 31st, was attended by six thousand people. The meeting proved a regular field day for the New Zealanders, who, out of the twelve events for which they were entered, secured seven firsts, five seconds, arid two thirds.

One Hundred Yards—J. 11. Hempton (Invercargill) 1. W. T. Macpherson (N.S.W.) 2, H. M. Reeves (Christchurch) 3. Four others competed. The race excited considerable interest, owing to Macpherson(the Sydney crack) competing. Hempton won easily by 2 yards. High Jump—Kellet (sft 4in) 1, White 2.

The 120 Yards Hurdles was run in two heats. Lusk Avon the first in 17 4-sth sees, and White the second in 18 2-sths. In the final heat Lusk and White jumped each hurdle together, but the former had an advantage over the last obstacle, and won by two yards. Time, 17 3-sth sec.

Three Mile Walk.—E. J. McKelvey (Dunediii) J. J. Giltman and R. Smythe were the only starters. Won by McKelvey by nearly a quarter of a mile, Giltman second. ■ . ■
