[per press association.]
Greymouth, June 1
The Hon H. H. Lahmann, M.L.C., Westland, died last night. He had been ailing for >i long time. His age was about seventy-three.
[The late Mr Lahmann was one of the pioneers of the West Coast in this island. He gained the respect of his fellowcolonists while carrying on the business of importer and general merchant in the early clays, and was several times Chairman of the Grey County Council, that body doing good work in opening up the county. During that time Mr Lahmann was incessant in his endeazors to promote the interests of the miners. A call to tho Upper House in 1873 was accepted by the inhabitants of the West Coast as a compliment alike to them and to Mr Lahmann. Though comparatively a silent member, Mr Lahmann's vote and interest have always been in favor of progress in mining, and lie has borne the respect and esteem of all with whom he has come in contact. The deceased • gentleman remained a widower during his sojourn on the West Coast, and his only son is Resident Engineer and Secretary to the Greymouth Harbor Board.— (" Lyttelton Times.")
