Wellington, May 24. -. I The Minister for Lands has had a return prepared, shewing ""the increase of land taken up under settlement conditions since 1880. In June of that year there were 2877 selectors holding 670,267 acres at the 31st March, 1885, there were 4256 selectors holding 1,206,219, acres, while at the end of March, 1890, the number had increased to 8843 selectors, holding 1,751,084 acres. The number of agricultural holdings in the colony at the end of March, 1890, was 38,578, being an increase of 2431 over the .previous year. The increase last year is 1049 over the annual average for the last six years.
