The Postal Conference unanimously adopted a resolution fixing the federal
postal rate at 2|d.' -< -- i '-.- - . Mr O'Connor, of New South. "Wales, in.moving a resolution regarding-the Pacific;mail services,;said,th'e time'hadj arrived when New ■ Zealand, should contract for herself. :*" ": ■,:.'..'•
Mr Derham (Victoria) thought the motion would force the band of the United States,' which placed the colonies in an unfair position. - ■ •
Mr Bird (Tasmania) 'suggested- that the resolution should be amended in order to provide for any arrangement that might; be: made on the visit of the Canadian' representatives! The Svo'rds "be arranged .for. ,by- 'New Zealand" were substituted for "bereft to," and the motion as amended was carried. .
