A. table has been prepared by the Secretary to tho Post-office, showing the seceipts and payments for mail services during 1889. The cost of the 'Frisco service was £27,394, receipts £30,307, net profit £2913. Direct service, expenditure £20,480, receipts £15,189, net post to colony £5291, ' Mr Gray adds a footnote stating that only one month of the reduced subsidy for the 'Frisco service is included in the return. For 12 months under the present arrangement the profit would have been £8577.

The Executive of the Railway Servants' Society have written to the Manawatu Railway Company, stating that their employees complain of the insufficiency of the staff employed, and request them to remedy the matters complained of. ' The calendar for the criminal sitting, which opens on Monday, comprises 24 charges of ordinary character against 17 persons. Drury, Secretary to the Cabmen's Union, has received a letter from the Railway Commissioners acknowledging roeeipf of changes preferred by Wo oabxnon against Pqn^taDio Kelly, and staling that the Commissioners do not think in justice to Kelly that they can take action on the charges made, they consider the charges too general,, but if the. cabmen make Specific charges and fix dates of'qc.eurrences, and are' prepared to «übfitanfcwte tjhe charges on oath, the Commissioners would recommend the Governor to appoint a. Commission of .Enquiry. They consider that" nothing previous to 1887, when the last enquiry was held by Mr Jfeetham, shoujd be gone into.
