In the matter of the bankruptcy of Andrew Brown, builder, an order was moved for in the District Qpurt declaring that; certain payments made to the tfnion Bank of Australia were fraudulent and Yoi4» on account of such payments being preferential, the total amount beina about 4JSQO. Judge Broad to-day gave judgment against the Bank for £162. Ib« Y«H'» land Settlement. Wellington, May 21. The result of the year's selection of land on the settlement conditions is considered very satisfactory as regards the number of persons to the area, as there are over ten selectors under S.QQ a,ores. for every one above that area. Tt»« Jloeftpa garden-Mr Bird Stmpenrtwrt. The Department of Justice has called on Mr Bird, R.M. at Reefton, to resign, and has suspended him from undertaking any fresh duties. Mr Greenfield, R.M. and Warden at Collingwood,. has been sent down to take up the work, pending the arrival of Mr Kenny, wh.q succeeds Mr Bird.
