Upper Ashburton Road Board.

+ . The regular monthly meeting of this Board was held in. the Board's office, Tinwald, O n April 28th, 1890., Present: Messrs McLean (chairman), Sargent, and Campbell. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. • Correspondence was read as follows :. (1) From the Ashburton County. Council asking the Board's opinion as to the efficiency of the poisoned grain furnished by the Council to the Board last year. The Clerk to reply that .the Board had no complaint to make in regard to the poisoned grain used last year. ; At the same time they think if more sugar were used in the preparation for poisoning, the small birds would take the grain more readily; also that the grain when poisoned should not be bagged till quite dry.—(2) From Mr E. G. Crisp, solicitor,stating that Mr E. Lovett had . lost ta, draught mare on the swamp road, Hinds, through .the'bad"state of the road,, and claiming from *the Board the sum of £6 for the mare, also- stating' that if the 1 Board .would settle the matter ,his w client was willing to accept the sum of £3 10s 6d (£3 as value for the mare, 10s 6d lawyer's costs). "The matter was left in the hands of the Chairman to take advice thereon, as the Board did not think they were in any way liable.—(3) From Mr A. C. Hardy, stating that the bridge over the creek leading from Mr Remington's property to main road wa's In a dangerous' state and x- ..i:-. Forest road, which the Board is given to understand is almost impassable and dangerous to travellers, .and to ask them to take,immediate steps to have it made safe for traffic. Accounts amounting to £109 17s Sd were passed for payment and the Board adjourned. ..
