[pee press association.] Chkistohuboh, April 24. A Conference was' held to-day of representatives from the Canterbury County Councils and Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards. Committees were appointed to report on the'best method of managing waterrraces and dealing ( with obstructions in rivers. The Conference also resolved as follows :— ; ■-•'-■< " That clause 248 of the Counties Act be altered so as to take the power, from the Governor to. force any Council, to. repair any road, bridge, or ferry, and, in lieu thereof to allow County Councils, to say whether these roads, -etc., be hiaiptained or not, their decision to'be final.''
