II may not be known to many people that Queen Victoria is an ardent student of African geography, and could pass a very crcdiiiiblc examination in that subject with Mr Slanloy as the interrogator. Her Majesty has carefully watched the Portuguese enroachments, and when the news of the outrage on the British flag readied London, it was the Queen herself who insisted on Lord Salisbury compelling Portugal to come to a definite understanding without delay.
