There is a story current about Montagu Williams which does not appear in "Leaves of a Life." He had got a renowned dogstealer ofF, and Hie wortl.y fellow came to thank him for his efforts, "llwcro splendid," he sum", referring to his counsel's speech: " I niver 'eanl sicli lying afore. Wliy, it almost took me in myself" (and so on for ten lninul'Jo). Then the man wound up : " Well, sir, .T'm greatly obleeged, greatly ohlecged. And (dropping his voice) if any of your friends'ave got a dawg which you've took a- fancy to, like, why you've only to name it,"
