Chertsey Annual Sports and Races.
These annual events came off in the Chertsey Domain yesterday. A goodly number of visitors attended from the surrounding districts and by the afternoon the scene of operations had assumed a lively appearance. Refreshments booths were on the ground and seemed to be well patronised. The weather which looked rather lowering in the morning fortunately kept up and allowed the programme to be carried through without hindrance. Following are the results of the several events —
ATHLETic Sports, Men's 100 yds Race Handicap, First prize 15s, J. Welsh ; second, 10s, W. J. Welsh; third, ss, S. Heatley. Five started. •
Schoolboys Race, 200 yds Handicap, First prize 10s, D. Campbell; second ss, J. McDowell ; third 2s 6d, C. Hampton. Fifteen started. •
Men's 440 yds Race, Handicap. First prize 22s 6d, Dowling; second 10s, J. Welsh. Four ran.
Men's 440 yds .Hurdle Race, Handicap, over four nights of hurdles, 3ft 6in high, Ist prize 30s,' W. "Huston ; second 15s, J. Middleton.
A three-legged race was run but we have not been supplied with the names of the winners ; the other athletic events on the programme did not come off. Horse Races. HtTKDLE Race of 6 soys, over six flights pf hurdles, 3ft 6in high. Weight list. About 2 miles. Mr R. Cairn's Tommy ... 1 Two ran. Handicap Distance Saddle Tbot of 6 soys. Weight list. Cairn's Tommy ... 1 Mr Clarke's Beeswing .'.. 2 Hurry Scurry. A sweepstake of 10s, with 1 soy added. Catch weights. About 1 mile. Tit Willow 1 . Roy ... '« 2 One Mile Open Flat Race of soys. Mr Osborne's Sorella ... 1 Mr Sherwood's Flyer ... 2 Mr J. Welsh's Snapshot also ran. The proceedings of the day were wound up by a dance in the Schoolroom.
