To eßoape the sea was a matter of impossibility. The sea oame up and broke ten feet over the rail, sending the spray eighty feet high. The sea washed the iron capstan head off and Bent it overboard together with the bulwarks and boats, as soon as the mountain wavo did its work. The gale continued with great fury. The ship was kept running at a speed of ten knots an hour.
