ASHTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the Aehton School Committee was held at the school on Monday evening. Pteoent : Messrs T. Taylor (la the obalr), Shearer, Oroy, Rjaa. and Orosson- , • .-■■ '*> Oorresponderce was reoelved ffom tht Board of Ettaoatlon with teferenoe to the painting of the eohool holdings, the ereotlon of a bell, and election of a onmnlttee. The master's report was read and oonsfdered very satisfactory, as the attendance for the past month hrd been veiy good, eipeolally In the lower division. Tht roll number was: Boys 29, Girls 23, total 65. The average attendance for the month was as follows : -Boys 26, girls 23, total 49, The master alie stated that two girls had been admitted and ode boy and one girl withdrawn. The ihlngllng ordered by the Committee had been done, and was a considerable Improvement to the school grounds. The Inspector's report was next fead and wai ai follows :— Standards VI, 111. Mr Thomas Mitchell, mister j Standard II P., Miss Anna H. lagram, mlstrasa, The organisation was satisfactory. Tht tlme.tables make suitable provision for teaching all the aabjaots required by the regulations. Remarks on the methods, and quality of Instruoklen :— The master Is a very good teaaher Indeed, and there Is no school of this s'zj In the dlstrlet which shows a greater amount of healthy lntelleotuai activity. The mistress is very painstaking, she employs good methods with very fair skill, and she has a nloe manner of dealing with young children* " The discipline Is excellent," state of buildings, oleanllness of rooms and prt« raises, etc, '• satisfactory." .
