THE NEW FIRE BRIGADE.

A meeting of members of the Ashbarton and Western Fire Brigades was held at the Brigade Station, Burnett Street, last evening, for the purpose of carrying the amalgamation proposals into effect. Mr G F. Soott was voted to the chair, and explained the objeots for whioh the meetiog had been held. The first business to be done was the eleotion of officers. Mr W. E. Dolman, who was recently ap* pointed Engineer of the steam fire engiae, handed m his resignation as lieutenant. The following offioers were elected :— Captain, G. F. Soott; Lieutenanto, A. A. Fooks and J. Qnane. At a later stage of the meeting the Captain annoanoed that he and the Lieutenantß had deoided to appoint foremen as follows: — Foreman of Eastern Branob, F. Nokes ; Foreman of Western Branob, J. Mites. The appointment of Deputy Foreman was held over. A Committee was elected as follows : — W, Potter, D. McDonald, J. Mileß, F. Nokea and J. Hefford. Fireman H. Baker was appointed Assistant* Engineer, at a stated remuneration. . The Captain stated that the Council had left the matter of christening the ateam fire engine, and arranging a suitable oeremony for tha oooasion, m the handß of the Brigade. It had been thought that the three engines might be taken out and a prooession made to the Domain, where sports* and some competitions for firemen might be held. He thought next Wednesday afternoon would be the most suitable occasion, as the inauguration of the half-holiday movement was fixed for that day. A oommittee was appointed to make suit* able arrangements. It was deoided to hold a aooial m the evening.
