SIR H. ROBINSON.
Copies of papers containing verbatim reports of the speech delivered by Sir Hercules Robinson at tbe farewell banquet tendered to him prior to his departure from the Cape have reached here by the mail steamer. The newspaper reports show that the extracts of the speech cabled from the Cape were greatly exaggerated, and that the remarks made by Sir Hercules as to the necessity of federation of the South African States, and ultimate declaration of wjdependence, which caused considerable consternation m political circlet m London, were much magnified.
