In oonneotion with the statement of the Department that there are no grounds of complaint against the Takapuna barracks as quarters for the Arched Constabulary, the " Herald " to-day Bays: "Men are now employed m removing the filch and mad whtoh has accumulated m tbe trench round the barracks, and larger drain pipes are being laid down to carry off the water from the trenoh. The roof of the barracks is getting two or three layers of asphalt over it to prevent leakage which ooours every time it rains Tbe wash house, which udjoiDS tbe barraoks dormitory, bad to be closed up to pievent tbe stench arising from defective sewerage pervading the whole of the barraoks, and tbe men have now to go a distance of 60 yards to waßh m the open air or else into a fowlhouse adjacent.
