MEETING OF RATEPAYERS.
The annual meeting of ratepayers waa held at noon on Wednesday.— The attendance was moderate. Mr Coster, (Chairman of the Board) presided. The balance-sheet (whioh has not yet been audited) was read, shewing : — Bkoeipis.— Cash m Baok, April li 1 , 1888, £3217 7s ; interest, £112 lOe ; rates, 1888, £374 3s lOd ; rates, 1887, £3 7s ; Goverment subsidy, £115 11s 8d ; general village settlement, £114 11s 4d ; fords Asbburton Oounty Council, £38 4s Od; pound fees and incidental reoeipts, £25 13s 7d; plant, £8 10s; small birds eggs, £25 2s 2d: total, £817 18s 7d ; grand total, £4085 Os 7d, Expknditdbb.— By township works, £88 16s Od ; new works and roads, £364 17a 8d ; maintenance roads, etc., £281 7s Id ; plantations and gravol pits, £104 lla 9d ; village settlement, £89 6s 3d; forda aooountß, £20 19s 9d; Oemotery Board, £15; B mall birds aooount, £88 17s Gd ; pound fees (surplus sale horso returned), £3 12s; rates aooount, commission, £12 1b; advertising and printing, £36 9a 8d; general expenses, £55 6s 4d; Clerk's salary £100; cash m £4085Ss D 7d. iQ BaDk ' £2828 18S: t0W '
On the motion of Mr Ooster, seoonded by Mr J. MoLean, the balanoe sheet aa read was adopted; It was deoided to advertise same after auditing.
Mr Hardy moved a hearty vote ol thanks to the outgoing Board for its services ; the roads m this distriot oompared moat favorably with others m the oounty. Seoonded by Mr Betta and carried unanimously. The Chairman acknowledged the vote and the meeting terminated.
