MURDER AND INCENDIARISM.
(per press association.) Gisbobnb, April 23. News bas reached here of a- hnrrlbla marder oommittod on the Mahia Penlnsola. A man named Robeit Gollaa has been murdered by a h«)f-oaste named McQa&rrle. Gollau's remains were found amongst the mini of his whare, whioh had been destroyed, at Table Oape. On the night of the murder McQaarrle left bis home, and his young brother-in-law being frightened of baing at home In the dark, followed a short distance behind. McQiarrle was heard to fire three shots. Tbe appearance of the ground around Gtollan's wharf showed that the bleeding body had been dragged ioto the whare, whioh had been burnt. The motive asalgned Is jea'ousy. Mo* Qaarrie has of tea expressed himself m jealous terms ofQollai on acooont of |a Maori woman with whom he was living, and of whom McQuarrle was deeply enamoured. The o her day he offared a Maori £10 if he would bring the woman to htm. The polioe are at Mahia, and MiQiattie has been arrested.
