Htdzcbt, April 11. In the Assembly this afternoon Mr J. N. Brunker, Minister of Lands, introduced the new Land Bill. The measure generally is of a liberal character, and increases the area under which conditional purchases may be made. Provision is made 1 for the suspension of the conditions m cases of illness, droughts and floods. Rents will be subject to reappraiseraent. The term of squatters' leases is extended to twenty-one years.
Lord Onslow arrived here from Melbourne this morning. It is probable that lady Onslow will leave by the Tekapo for Wellington on Monday.
In the case of Lavinia Dines, whose body was exhumed some time ago and evidence of malpractice wa3 found, the jury to-day at first returned a verdict of murder against Dr Smith and his wife. The Coroner then asked the jury to consider whether m their opinion drugs were administered for the purpose of causing abortion. The jury, after lurther consideration, than amended tbeir verdict to the effect that deceased died from perforation of the intestines, but there.was no evidence to show bow it wai ciuaed,
